I hear the word sacrifice a lot when speaking with entrepreneur’s wives. I have spoken this word countless times myself. I am a huge believer in the power behind the words you speak. So I went a little deeper with the word sacrifice.

Definition of Sacrifice –

: destruction or surrender of something for the sake of something else
: something given up or lost
: to suffer loss of, give up, renounce, injure, or destroy especially for an ideal, belief, or end

To me, all of the above definitions have a slightly negative tone. Would you agree? Our words are crucial, they hold energy, and create a ripple effect. Let’s check in, what feeling bubbles up when you say the word sacrifice? Joy? Pride? Or do you feel sad, resentful, and lonely?

I found the word, offer. Offer is a synonym of the word sacrifice.

Definition of Offer –

: to present as an act of worship or devotion
: to declare one’s readiness or willingness
: to make available

Do you see the difference between the two words? This small shift can have a significant impact on your energy. Your mindset will guide your thoughts; your thoughts will impact your words and your words will create your reality. I don’t know about you, but that seems pretty big to me.

You offer so much to the dreams of your husband and the families business. You offer your time, belief and the funds needed to create the momentum needed for this journey. Your readiness to do what it takes for the greater good and willingness to believe and dream big alongside your husband is extraordinary.

Small shifts, little changes. We have to tune in to how we feel when words are spoken. When I started to feel icky about the word sacrifice and the heartache that the word carried with it, I knew it was time to dig in.

You are doing this together! You both give so much, feel all the emotions of the climb, and together you’re going to do extraordinary things for your family. Avoid the sinkholes your words can create. Listen to your soul. Be willing to correct course. Remember, you may not be able to control the chaos, but you can control the way you react. I believe in you.

Small efforts can change your life in significant ways.
